Nearly 3 decades helping Texas families plan for and enjoy retirement.
Over 30 years of experience serving Hill Country and San Antonio families.
The heartbeat of Sweetwater — clients know her voice before anything else.
Houston energy industry background — detail-oriented and client-focused.
“I have been with Sweetwater Financial since I retired ten years ago. I have traveled a lot, been in the hospital several times, and yet the entire time I have had full faith in Sweetwater in taking good care of my accounts. The staff is delightful and answer all my questions. Just last week they called me with a suggestion on one of my accounts. Bryan and his team are great.”
“I am a licensed CPA here in Sugar Land, Texas. My wife and I have shared great experiences and a wonderful relationship with Bryan and Mark for more than two decades. They have managed our investments with great care and diligence. They are available for meetings to discuss your investments and goals and are ready to assist you in achieving your financial goals. Blessings, Sweetwater.”
“We have been clients for over 20 years and could not be more pleased. They have done great with our investments over the years and now, as we near retirement, have assisted with retirement planning. They are so trustworthy and reliable that we have sent them many clients. I also love how they can break things down and explain when we have questions.”
“Great customer service, advising, strategizing, and communication. This team truly cares about their clients and it shows. I have worked with other financial advisors and hands down this is the best I have encountered. Their faith and values have led me to a sense of security in these uncertain times. I highly recommend Sweetwater Financial to my family and friends.”
“Mr. Teel is extremely knowledgeable and able to explain various saving and investment vehicles in a way that is easy to understand. I found the in-office atmosphere to be relaxed with no high-pressure rushing to make commitments. Mr. Teel has been an excellent financial advisor — but he is half of the experience. The front office is remarkable. Every time I have called, they immediately know who I am and are able to answer my questions very quickly. They do not leave you waiting and wondering.”
The above testimonials were provided by current clients of Sweetwater Financial Advisors, LLC. Clients were not compensated for their reviews. Individual results may vary.
"...but in an abundance of counselors there is victory."
No pressure. No pitch. Just an honest 20-minute conversation about where you are and where you want to be.

I didn't start out as a financial advisor.
After college I came to Houston in 1988 and spent my early career in real estate valuation — learning how to assess what things are truly worth, how to cut through complexity and noise, and how to give people an honest answer even when it's not what they hoped to hear.
Those skills turned out to be exactly what great financial planning requires.
In the late 1990s I made the transition into financial advising and wealth management — and I've never looked back. What drew me in was simple: I discovered that the thing people needed most wasn't a complicated financial plan and investment strategy — it was someone they could trust to manage their money well and give them an honest picture of where they stood and where they were headed.
That's still what drives me today.
I believe most people aren't looking for the flashiest portfolio or the most complex financial plan. They're looking for clarity. They want to know they're going to be okay — that the years they spent working hard are going to translate into a retirement they can actually enjoy without constantly worrying.
My job is to give them that confidence.
The Houston area has been my home for nearly 40 years now and I can't imagine being anywhere else. I've watched this region grow, weather storms — literally and figuratively — and come back stronger every time. When you've called a place home for nearly 40 years, the people you serve aren't just clients — they're neighbors, friends, and part of your story.
I'm married and my wife and I are raising our four children here in the Sugar Land area. When I'm not working you'll find me at a basketball game, a dance recital, or cheering on one of my daughters in a musical. I've coached my share of youth sports teams over the years — and those sidelines have been some of the best moments of my life. My wife and I are active in our local church and I have the privilege of teaching adult Sunday school.
I've been doing this for about three decades. Many of my clients have been with me for a decade or more. That's not an accident.
They stay because they know I'll tell them the truth. They stay because when they call Sweetwater they always hear back quickly. They stay because when something big happens in their life — a job change, a health scare, a child's wedding, a spouse passing — I already know their whole story and we navigate it together.
That's the kind of advisor I set out to be. It's still who I am today.
Co-Founder & Financial Advisor · Boerne, Texas
Some people stumble into financial planning. I was led to it.
Early in my life a mentor took the time to show me something most people never see — that building real, lasting wealth isn't about luck or timing or chasing the hottest stock. It's about discipline, patience, and having someone in your corner who genuinely understands your goals and tells you the truth.
That lesson changed the direction of my life.
For more than 30 years I've been honoring that gift by doing the same thing for my clients that my mentor did for me — showing up, telling the truth, and helping good people build financial lives they're proud of.
I believe investing is one of the most powerful tools a person has to build security for their family — but only when it's done with intention and wisdom, not fear or impulse.
After three decades in this profession I've seen every kind of market — bull runs, crashes, recessions, recoveries. What I've learned is that the clients who fare best aren't the ones with the cleverest strategies. They're the ones with a clear plan, a steady hand, and an advisor they trust enough to stay the course when things get uncomfortable.
I'm proud to call the Texas Hill Country home. Living just outside San Antonio in Boerne gives me a deep connection to the people and families of South and Central Texas — hardworking, unpretentious people who value straight talk and don't have time for financial jargon.
Jenny and I have been married for over 35 years, and together we raised our five children here in the Texas Hill Country. It's a place that keeps you grounded in what truly matters — family, community, and faith. You could find us on just about any sideline over the years — football, soccer, volleyball, and track. I served as president of the Greyhound Athletic Booster Club in Boerne for four years — a privilege and a lot of fun. When I'm not with family you'll likely find me hunting or somewhere in the Colorado mountains — two places that have a way of putting everything in perspective. We are active in our local church where I have the privilege of teaching adult Sunday school.
After more than three decades in financial planning and wealth management, I've sat across the table from clients during the best moments of their lives and the hardest ones. I've helped families retire with confidence, navigate unexpected loss, and leave something meaningful behind for the people they love.
They stay because they know I've seen what's coming before they have — and I'll be honest with them about it every single time. And they stay because when they reach out to Sweetwater, they always hear back promptly.
Investment management and financial guidance built around your life, not ours.
Most financial firms hand you a brochure full of products and call it a plan. We do something different. We start by listening — to where you are, where you want to go, and what keeps you up at night.
Making sure your money lasts as long as you do.
The question we hear most often is: "Will I have enough?" After 30 years of helping Texas families build the future they've worked for, we know that question deserves a real answer — not a generic projection or a hopeful guess. We build retirement income plans that account for your actual expenses, Social Security timing, inflation, and the legacy you want to leave behind.
Disciplined, long-term investing built around your goals — not the market's mood.
We don't chase trends. We don't panic when markets drop. We build diversified, thoughtfully constructed portfolios designed to grow your wealth steadily over time while protecting what you've already built. Every portfolio we build is well-diversified, thoughtfully structured to meet your specific goals, and designed to keep working for you through whatever the market brings.
Making sure your financial plan and your legal documents are telling the same story.
We work alongside your estate attorney and CPA to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. If you don't already have an attorney or accountant you trust, we're happy to connect you with professionals we've worked with for years. Consider us the hub that keeps your entire financial team coordinated.
Helping your family prepare for one of life's biggest expenses — without derailing retirement.
The two biggest financial goals most families face — retirement and college — often collide at exactly the wrong time. We help you navigate both without sacrificing one for the other, from 529 plan strategies to timing your contributions around your overall investment strategy.
We charge a straightforward percentage of the assets we manage on your behalf. No hidden charges. No surprises.
In some situations we work with a trusted insurance partner and may receive a referral fee on insurance solutions. We will always disclose this upfront and will only recommend coverage we genuinely believe is in your best interest.
Schedule a free 20-minute call and let's talk about your financial picture.
A simple, straightforward process built around you.
We know that reaching out to a financial advisor can feel like a big step. That's exactly why we made our process simple, straightforward, and built around you.
No obligation. No pitch. Just a real conversation.
It starts with a free 20-minute call — just you and one of us. No paperwork, no preparation required. We'll ask a few simple questions about where you are financially. By the end of the call you'll know whether Sweetwater feels like the right fit. And so will we.
A clear investment strategy built around your life.
If we both feel good about moving forward we schedule a deeper discovery meeting. This is where we really get to know you. From there we put together a clear investment strategy — a practical, honest approach designed around your real life and your real goals. Plain English. No jargon.
An advisor who knows your whole story. For years to come.
Once your strategy is in place we get to work — managing your investments, monitoring your progress, and adjusting as your life changes. Markets change. Life changes. We stay on top of it so you don't have to. Many of our clients have been with us for a decade or more. That's not an accident — it's the whole point.
Just one thing — show up to our first conversation ready to be honest about where you are and where you want to go. The more we know, the better we can help.
We work best with people who are serious about their financial future — wherever they are on the journey.
After nearly three decades of serving Texas families we've learned that we do our best work with a specific kind of person. Not a specific income bracket or job title — a specific mindset.
Whether you're just getting serious about retirement planning or you're almost there — you've spent years building a career, growing a business, raising a family, or simply doing the right things financially. You're not looking to get rich quick. You're looking to protect what you've built, make it last, and enjoy the retirement you've earned.
We'd rather be honest about that upfront than waste your time — or ours.
We are endorsed Dave Ramsey SmartVestor Pros serving Houston, College Station, and the San Antonio area. If Dave Ramsey sent you our way, you've come to the right place — we share his commitment to honest, straightforward financial guidance.
The Houston energy corridor is our backyard. We work with professionals from Shell, Schlumberger, Halliburton, and dozens of mid-size operators who face complex financial decisions unique to the industry — pension payout choices, 401(k) rollovers, concentrated stock positions, and retirement timing strategies that most advisors simply are not equipped to navigate.
Lump sum vs. annuity, survivor benefits, and timing — these decisions are irreversible. We help you get them right.
When you leave or retire from an energy company, rolling over your 401(k) correctly can save you significant taxes and fees.
The window between retirement and Social Security is often the ideal time to convert. We help you identify and capture that opportunity.
When to claim — and how to coordinate with your pension and investment income — can mean tens of thousands of dollars over your lifetime.

We're a small, intentional team — and we think that's exactly the point. Every person here was chosen because they share the same belief: that clients deserve to be treated like people, not account numbers.

We believe transparency is the foundation of every good financial relationship.
Sweetwater Financial Advisors, LLC is a Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) registered with the State of Texas through the Texas State Securities Board (TSSB). Registration does not imply a certain level of skill or training.
Our full Form ADV is available upon request at no charge and through the Texas State Securities Board at ssb.texas.gov and on the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website at adviserinfo.sec.gov.
As a Registered Investment Adviser we are held to a fiduciary standard. That means we are legally and ethically required to act in your best interest at all times — not ours. We believe this is simply the right way to do business.
Sweetwater Financial Advisors, LLC is primarily compensated through an advisory fee based on a percentage of assets under management. This fee is clearly disclosed in our Form ADV and in our client agreements before any engagement begins.
In some situations we work with a trusted insurance partner and may receive a referral fee on insurance solutions recommended to clients. We will always disclose this arrangement clearly and in advance. We only recommend insurance solutions we genuinely believe serve our clients' best interests. This arrangement represents a small portion of our overall revenue and never influences the advice we give.
Sweetwater Financial Advisors, LLC participates in the Dave Ramsey SmartVestor Pro program. SmartVestor Pros pay a fee to Ramsey Solutions for client referrals. This fee is not passed on to clients. Straight answers to the questions we hear most often.
At a big bank or wirehouse your advisor answers to a corporation with products to sell and quotas to meet. At Sweetwater you work directly with Bryan or Mark — the founders — who answer only to you. We have no products to push, no corporate agenda, and no junior associates handling your account. We are independent fiduciaries which means we are legally and ethically required to put your interests first. Always.
Yes. As a Registered Investment Adviser we are held to the fiduciary standard at all times — not just when it's convenient. That means we are required to act in your best interest, disclose any conflicts of interest, and provide advice that serves you rather than us. This is a higher standard than what brokers at many large firms are held to.
SmartVestor Pros are a select group of financial advisors endorsed by Ramsey Solutions — Dave Ramsey's organization. To be listed, advisors must meet specific standards and agree to operate according to Dave's investing principles, which include acting in clients' best interests, being transparent about fees, and following a long-term disciplined investment approach. Sweetwater participates in the SmartVestor Pro program. SmartVestor Pros pay a fee to Ramsey Solutions for referrals — this fee is never passed on to clients.

The first step is a free 20-minute call with Bryan or Mark — no paperwork, no preparation, no obligation. We'll ask a few questions about where you are financially and what you're hoping to accomplish. By the end of the call you'll know whether Sweetwater is the right fit. You can schedule directly on our calendar using the button below.
We work with clients at a range of asset levels. The best way to find out if we're a good fit for your situation is to schedule a free 20-minute call. We'll be upfront about whether we can serve you well — and if we can't, we'll point you in the right direction.
It starts with a free 20-minute introductory call. If we're a good fit we schedule a deeper discovery meeting where we get to know your full financial picture — your goals, your concerns, and what you want retirement to look like. From there we build an investment strategy tailored to your situation and walk you through it in plain English. Once you're comfortable we get to work managing your investments and staying in close contact as your life evolves.
Absolutely. We serve clients across the state of Texas and can work with you virtually. Many of our clients prefer meeting by video call for the convenience — we're just as thorough and attentive whether we meet in person or online.
Our primary compensation is a straightforward percentage of the assets we manage on your behalf — called an assets under management (AUM) fee. This means our interests are directly aligned with yours: when your investments grow, we grow with you. We will always disclose our fees clearly before any engagement begins — no surprises.
Our primary compensation is AUM-based fees. In some situations we work with a trusted insurance partner and may receive a referral fee on insurance solutions we recommend. We will always disclose this arrangement clearly and in advance, and we only recommend insurance coverage we genuinely believe serves your best interests. This represents a small portion of our overall revenue and never influences the advice we give.
No. We believe in complete transparency about how we're compensated. Our fee structure is disclosed in our Form ADV and in your client agreement before you sign anything. If you ever have a question about what you're paying and why, just ask — we'll give you a straight answer.
We believe in disciplined, long-term investing built around your specific goals — not the market's mood. We don't chase trends, try to time the market, or panic when things get volatile. We build diversified portfolios designed to grow your wealth steadily over time while protecting what you've already built. After 60 combined years in this business we've seen every kind of market — and the clients who fare best are the ones with a clear strategy and a steady hand.
We believe an advisor who only calls with bad news isn't doing their job. You'll hear from us regularly — not just during market downturns. We reach out proactively when something relevant happens that affects your situation and are always reachable by phone or email. We're happy to meet with clients whenever needed. When you reach out to Sweetwater — by phone or email — you'll hear back from our team within one business day. Usually much sooner.
Your assets are held by Charles Schwab or Capital Group — nationally recognized, independent custodians — not by Sweetwater directly. This means your investments are always in your name and fully protected regardless of what happens to our firm. We never take possession of client assets. Your custodian issues statements directly to you so you always have independent visibility into your account.
We'd rather answer it in a conversation than a FAQ. Schedule a free 20-minute call — no obligation.
Use these to evaluate any advisor — including us. We think you will like our answers.
Choosing a financial advisor is one of the most important decisions you will make. Before you commit to anyone — including Sweetwater — here are ten questions every advisor should be able to answer clearly and honestly.
Why it matters: A fiduciary is legally required to act in your best interest at all times. Many advisors are only held to a lower suitability standard — meaning they can recommend products that are merely suitable for you, even if better options exist.
Our answer: Yes — always. As a Registered Investment Adviser, Sweetwater Financial Advisors is held to the fiduciary standard 100% of the time. We are legally and ethically required to put your interests first. No exceptions.
Why it matters: How an advisor gets paid directly affects the advice they give. Commission-based advisors may be incentivized to recommend products that pay them more — not necessarily what is best for you.
Our answer: Our primary compensation is a transparent percentage of the assets we manage — called an AUM fee. This means our interests are directly aligned with yours. When your investments grow, we grow with you. In some situations we may receive a referral fee on insurance solutions — we will always disclose this clearly and in advance.
Why it matters: Not all financial advisors are equally qualified. Credentials like the CFP® designation require rigorous education, examination, experience, and ongoing ethics requirements.
Our answer: D. Bryan Teel holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER designation — one of the most respected credentials in the profession. Together Bryan and Mark bring over 60 years of combined experience in financial planning and wealth management. You can verify our backgrounds at adviserinfo.sec.gov.
Why it matters: At many large firms you meet a senior advisor but are handed off to junior staff. The person you interview may not be the person managing your money.
Our answer: You work directly with Bryan or Mark — always. Our support team, Melody and Kristina, assist with client communications and day-to-day needs. Your advisor relationship is with the founders — not a rotating cast of associates.
Why it matters: An advisor's investment philosophy should align with your goals and risk tolerance. Be cautious of anyone who promises to beat the market — most do not, and chasing returns often destroys wealth.
Our answer: We believe in disciplined, long-term investing built around your specific goals — not the market's mood. We do not chase trends, time the market, or panic when volatility hits. We build well-diversified portfolios designed to grow your wealth steadily while protecting what you have already built. After 60 combined years in this business, the clients who fare best are the ones with a clear strategy and a steady hand.
Why it matters: You should never wonder what is happening with your money. A good advisor reaches out proactively — not just when something goes wrong.
Our answer: We reach out proactively when something relevant happens that affects your situation. We are always reachable by phone or email and you will hear back from our team within one business day — usually much sooner. We believe an advisor who only calls with bad news is not doing their job.
Why it matters: Your assets should never be held directly by your advisor. This is how fraud schemes like Ponzi schemes operate — the advisor controls both the advice and the money.
Our answer: Your assets are held by Charles Schwab or Capital Group — nationally recognized, independent custodians — not by Sweetwater directly. Your custodian issues statements directly to you so you always have independent visibility into your account. We never take possession of client assets.
Why it matters: Any advisor who claims a completely clean record may not be telling the full truth — or has not been in business long enough to have faced difficult situations. What matters is how complaints were handled and what the facts were.
Our answer: In the interest of full transparency, there is one disclosed customer dispute from 2016 on D. Bryan Teel's record. The client made nearly $1,000,000 during his time with Sweetwater — a fact both parties agreed upon. The case was settled by our insurance carrier for $50,000 — approximately 8% of the original demand — against D. Bryan Teel's wishes. We believe the matter was without merit and are considering expungement. You can review the full record and our detailed broker comment at adviserinfo.sec.gov or brokercheck.finra.org.
Why it matters: Solo advisors who retire, become ill, or pass away can leave clients in a difficult position. A firm with succession planning protects you from disruption.
Our answer: Sweetwater is a two-principal firm — Bryan and Mark. In the event something happens to either advisor, the other continues to serve clients without disruption. Your assets are always held by your custodian independently of Sweetwater and are fully protected regardless of what happens to our firm.
Why it matters: Every advisor will tell you they are trustworthy and experienced. The question is what specifically makes them different — and whether those differences matter to you.
Our answer: A few things set Sweetwater apart. We are an independent fiduciary — we answer only to you. We are Dave Ramsey SmartVestor Pros — endorsed by Ramsey Solutions for our commitment to honest, straightforward advice. Bryan and Mark bring 60 combined years of experience and have served many clients for a decade or more. We have offices serving Houston, San Antonio, and College Station. And we genuinely care — not just about your money, but about your family, your goals, and the life you are building. We invite you to check our background, read our reviews, and decide for yourself.
